ABOUT DR. FEATHER

About Dr. Feather in Providence, RI



A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Feather received her Bachelors and Masters Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds advanced degrees in psychiatric nursing, psychology, higher education and law. Her professional career began with the acceptance of the position as faculty member at Duke University where she became the Director and Course Coordinator of Psychiatric Nursing Education at the Duke University Medical Center. At the same time she was appointed Director of Psychiatric Nursing at Duke University Medical Center. In 1980, Dr. Feather received her Doctoral Degree from Boston University's School of Humanistic and Behavioral Psychology. The subject of her doctoral dissertation was the moral development of incarcerated females. She established a successful private psychotherapy practice in 1980. In 1989, she graduated from Suffolk University School of Law Cum Laude. In that same year, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.
As a member of Butler, Hospital Corporation for many years, Dr. Feather serves as a member on the Butler Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, a member of the hospital's Medical Matters Committee, a member of the Friends of Butler Committee, and the Stewardship Committee. She now serves as Chair of the Hospital's History Committee and has interviewed over one hundred people in her quest to preserve the stories of the hospital and its people. Along with a professional colleague, Dr. Feather created the historic Hall of Plaques in 2016. Dr. Feather was also recognized as a Butler Hospital Partner in Philanthropy in 2008. Roberta Brown Feather, EdD, JD was recently honored as Outstanding Corporation member of the Year. She has been associated with Butler Hospital for over four decades and has been published in many professional journals. She is presently a member of the Rhode Island Department of Health, Health Services Council and additionally serves on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame.

Respected for her work in the community and for her commitment as a member of the board of directors to many non-profit boards, including the Providence Community Mental Health Center, Butler Hospital Foundation Board, the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. and the Rhode Island, Dr. Feather served on the Faculty of the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing for thirty-five years, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2008.
